Legacy (immediate mode)family
glLight*
Old fixed-function lighting: set up to 8 built-in lights (GL_LIGHT0…), computed per vertex by the driver.
Removed from the core profile. Fixed-function lighting, removed from the core profile in OpenGL 3.2.
Signature
void glLight{f|i}[v](GLenum light, GLenum pname, T param);
How it works
Before shaders, OpenGL had one built-in lighting model: glEnable(GL_LIGHTING), glEnable(GL_LIGHT0), then glLightfv for position and colours. It was Blinn-Phong evaluated only at the vertices, so highlights on large triangles looked smeared. The lighting lessons write that model, and better ones, in a fragment shader, per pixel, with as many lights as you like.
